New York Stem Cell Foundation

About New York Stem Cell Foundation

The mission of The New York Stem Cell Foundation is to accelerate cures for the major diseases of our time through stem cell research. Since our founding in 2005, NYSCF has been able to achieve outsized results in a relatively short period of time thanks to private philanthropy.

The NYSCF Research Institute, an independent laboratory, is a non-profit accelerator that serves to bridge the ongoing gap between research institutions and pharmaceutical and biotech companies by reducing the cost, time, and risk that historically inhibit the development of new treatments and cures. NYSCF has created not only foundational tools for using stem cells in basic research, but also pioneering technologies that will allow stem cells to be used therapeutically. By pursuing and supporting only the most promising stem cell research and technologies, in our own laboratories and in partnership with leading institutions around the world, NYSCF serves as a catalyst in this transformational field.

In addition to conducting innovative stem cell research across a range of diseases in our own laboratories, NYSCF also champions and convenes global stem cell thought leaders and the broader stem cell community, with an emphasis on clearing barriers to success for women in science. Through our Fellowship and Investigator Programs, NYSCF supports exceptional early-career researchers in the stem cell and neuroscience fields. This seeds the talent pipeline for future discoveries and creates an international community of top scientists, who collaborate extensively. To foster collective progress and communication throughout the biomedical research community, NYSCF hosts a leading annual scientific conference focused on translational stem cell research.

Another central tenet of NYSCF’s mission is democratizing access to science education for students and the public through the NYSCF Academy for Science and Society. Through our internship program, Family Stem Cell Day, student laboratory tours, and summer research program for teachers, we engage students of all ages with STEM. Additionally, we regularly host public events that bring world-leading scientists to our headquarters for presentations and panel discussions on their groundbreaking work, because we believe that public engagement with science is critical for the success of biomedical research.

Data Science Intern

June 2019 - August 2019 New York City, NY
“Amazing program. Very well organized with interns from all over the world. They had a coffee chat series and a lunch and learn series where scientists and staff from all levels shared their work in an informal way. Questions were encouraged, and I got to learn not just about software engineering and data science, but also about biology, scientific research, patent law, automation, manufacturing best practices, and more! ”
