Position Summary

The overall function of this position will be to assist in managing student staff in a Residential Dining Services Center as it relates to specified roles and responsibilities. These specialty focuses include but are not limited to: accountability & coaching, lead trainer, administrative tasks, operations, etc. The position is designed to be a stepping stone to the Student Manger position. 

Duties also include performing a variety of unsupervised supportive food service work including, but not limited to: making salads, dishing desserts, preparing main courses, serving food, loading and checking dishware, delivering food and operating all food service equipment such as deep fryers, char/steam grills, steamers, ovens, slicers, grinders, etc. 

To train and guide new employees and student supervisors as well as ensure follow-up training is delivered throughout the duration of employment. Act as a shift supervisor when needed and an assistant to the student manager. 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  1. One year’s experience within Dining Services and at least 500 hours working as a Student Supervisor. 
  2. Currently enrolled in a higher education degree seeking program, allowing continued employment post-graduation up to two months (summer included). 

Conditions of Employment

  1. Pre-employment criminal background check (required for change in job duties).
  2. Completion of Student Manager Orientation and Checklist 
  3. Completion of RDS Payroll & Processes training 
  4. Completion of the ServeSafe Manager Course and Certification within 3 months of hire 
  5. Completion of all required Student Leadership courses for Student Supervisors within 3 months of employment. 

Essential Duties: 

Leadership Management & Training – 40% 

  1. Maintain professionalism as a supervisor and act as a role model, mentor, and coach for Student Team Members and Student Supervisors. 
  2. Actively manage Student Supervisors and Student Team Members in the successful daily operation of the facility.  
  3. Train student employees including Student Supervisors actively through physical and verbal instruction on operations of the building and supervise those employees at all times. 
  4. Train employees including Student Supervisors on the importance of allergen awareness and understand how to inform guests of which allergens are in the food we serve. 
  5. Ensure adequate communication between employees and supervisors through the development of training sessions/orientations and staff meetings. 
  6. Ensure high-quality customer service, i.e. answering questions, resolving complaints, working at all times to exceed the expectations of the customer. Work as a problem solver at all times. 
  7. Ensure compliance with all food safety & sanitation guidelines including building, equipment, and chemical safety. 
  8. Possess and exhibit a thorough knowledge of departmental policies applicable to hourly employees. 
  9. Communicate effectively with supervisors and peers while promoting a positive work environment. 
  10. Ensure compliance with all hourly policies and procedures. 
  11. Attend all mandatory training sessions and meetings. 
  12. Learn and follow all guidelines contained in the hourly employee handbook. 
  13. Understand and follow Colorado State University policies, including the Principles of Community. 

Daily Operations Management – 30% 

  1. Assist in the daily operations of the dining center to include management and supervision of Student Team Members and Student Supervisors, initial and continuous training of all staff members, while ensuring building operations run smoothly. 
  2. Works closely with full-time staff and management in order to communicate expectation of tasks required for daily operations. Conveys this information to Student supervisors and team members within the facility. 
  3. Work closely with full-time staff and student supervisors to ensure daily schedule helps to accomplish all operational tasks in a timely manner. Assign duties to team members, checks in team members and confirms completion of daily tasks. 
  4. Meet daily scheduling requirements including working a minimum of 20 hours per week and specified shifts as described by the manager. Year-round employment is preferred. 

Essential Duties Specialty Focus (not all will be assigned to this position): - 30%\

 Accountability & Coaching 

  1. Decide on disciplinary actions and performance reports for Student Team Members and Student Supervisors 
  2. Advise and inform management staff of disciplinary actions leading to termination of Student Team Members and Student Supervisors 

Training 

  1. Lead the overall training of Student Team Members actively through physical and verbal instruction on all operations of the building and supervise those employees at all times. 
  2. Train new and current Student Supervisors on all operations of the building and supervise those employees at all times. 
  3. As directed, develop, lead, and implement training initiatives 

Administrative Tasks 

As assigned: 

  1. Keeping current student Team Member information, i.e. contact information, files, etc. 
  2. Manage time clock plus database functions for student employees 
  3. Ensure completion of all student employment paperwork to include employee evaluations & raises, performance reports, cross-training checklists, trainings, etc. 

Employee Management 

Oversee all personnel activities to include: 

  1. Keeping current student Team Member information, i.e. contact information, files, etc. 
  2. Manage time clock plus database functions for student employees. 
  3. Ensure completion of all student employment paperwork to include employee evaluations & raises, performance reports, cross-training checklists, trainings, etc. 
  4. Maintain student employee schedules utilizing a given budget and given labor cost percentages. 

Other 

  1. Other area specifics as assigned by the General Manager. 

Uniform: 

  • CSU Dining Services polo shirt will be issued by the employer to be worn on every shift 
  •  Aprons and nametags are to be worn, issued by employer 
  • Solid black pants are to be worn at all working times (no sweatpants, leggings, wind pants, etc.) 
  • Long hair must be pulled back away from the face and off the shoulders by an approved hair restraint (hairnet, employer-issued baseball hats). 
  • If the employee wishes to keep a beard, a hairnet must be worn in food production areas at all times 
  • It is the responsibility of the employee to keep the uniform in a clean, acceptable appearance
