Drs. Tara Opsal and Stephanie Malin are seeking an hourly Graduate Research Assistant to assist with a qualitative research project based on data examining community members’ attitudes toward a proposed detention facility. The hourly position will require coding transcribed interviews, using NVivo software, and working with Drs. Opsal and Malin to refine the codebook and hone in themes.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Coding about 25 interviews by end of FA 2025 semester
  • Using NVivo software to complete
  • Summarizing major themes (achieving inter-rater reliability with already developed, working codebook)

 

Qualifications and education requirements: 

  • Must be a sociology graduate student at the MA or PhD level.
  • Previous qualitative research experience.

 

Preferred skills: 

  • Prior experience coding semi-structured or unstructured interviews
  • Familiarity with NVivo (all coding will occur in NVivo)
