·        Seeking a student employee(s) to assist with livestock management, husbandry, research projects and feeding operations conducted at CSU ARDEC. 

·       Previous livestock and/or heavy equipment operation experience is preferred, but not required .

·       Preferably a student that possesses a willingness to learn, the ability to follow directions, is able to be relied upon, is self-disciplined, is motivated, and possesses personal integrity and accountability.

·        The ARDEC livestock unit supports CSU teaching, research and outreach programs in the Department of Animal Sciences, along with any related departments and their functions.

·        The team of student hourly employees, along with several full-time staff, comprise the unit's work force.

·        Operations include a registered Hereford and Angus seedstock herd, a 500 head cattle research feedlot, a 200 head cattle Feed Intake Unit, a small flock of sheep and occasionally a few pigs.

·        Flexibility around class schedules is able to be had, but any interested applicants must be able to work a minimum of 8-10 hours a week.

·        Weekend hours are required once the applicant has become familiar with operations. Hours required on weekends usually do not run over 4 hours in shift length.

·        This position requires the student to work during the Fall semester and Spring semester. With opportunity to continue working through Winter break and over Summer 2026 as well.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

·           Assist with daily livestock feeding, health checks, any necessary medical treatments, as well as with livestock husbandry at ARDEC.

·           Assist with cattle herd movements on the irrigated pivot.

·           Heavy equipment operation (loaders, feed trucks, and a skid steer). 

·           Minor facility repairs and maintenance.

·           Other duties as assigned.

Work Study Position: Work-study position eligible but not required.

Hourly Pay Rate: $15.50 (Potential for advancement once competency is shown)
