Library Services Desk Assistant

The Colorado State University (CSU) Libraries is the heart of learning and research on campus, connecting curious minds to vital information and knowledge. We uphold the CSU Principles of Community in our work environment. The Morgan Library is seeking motivated individuals to provide excellent customer service to all visitors to the CSU Libraries. These individuals will be part of our first point of contact team, who will answer questions, check items in/out, and direct patrons to library resources. This role reports to the Access Services Librarian.

Required Job Qualifications 

Maintaining patron privacy and confidentiality 

Availability to work at least two evenings and one weekend shift each week.  Evening hours are 8 pm – midnight, Sunday – Thursday, and as late as 2 am near semester finals. 

Ability to push loaded book trucks, reach higher shelves (may use a step stool), bend, and squat to access books on lower bookshelves

Essential Job Duties & Development of Career Competencies and Skills: 

Individuals hired into this role are expected to interact daily with CSU students, faculty, staff, and the public.  You will receive training and have opportunities to learn and develop many transferable skills that will benefit you in your academic efforts and future careers.  Examples include: 

 

Customer Service: Assist patrons with study room reservations and submit detailed building or IT tickets for safe, operable facilities.   

Accountability: Check out materials to correct patron accounts and process returns to remove items from accounts. Assist with administrative tasks and projects. 

Communication: Triage phone calls, instruct patrons on printing in the lab and personal devices. Guide patrons to library material locations and answer questions using available resources.   

Collaboration: Provide basic library research using the library catalog, databases, and website. Consult with full-time staff to deliver quality library services. 

Organization: Retrieve and sort library materials daily using the Library of Congress Classification system.  

Critical Thinking: Provide basic troubleshooting for computer lab hardware (computers, printers scanners), software (Adobe, Microsoft Office, etc.), and wireless connectivity issues
