Position Information
- Mentors will serve as leaders for the First Generation Business Summit.
- Position length: July 20, 2026 – July 25, 2026.
- There will be additional training that are required before the Summit that will be approximately 1 hour each.
- Mentors will check in on Monday, July 25, 2026, no later than 8:00 AM and check out on Saturday, July 25, 2026, once the Summit has been completed.
Mentor Responsibilities
- Mentors will work with their assigned team of participants to help them complete their case study presentation.
- Will assist their teams in research, presentation prep and any other assistance needed related to their case study competition.
- Mentors will attend most summit sessions and ensure participants attend all sessions.
- Mentors will be assigned certain sessions to attend to allow for breaks and rest.
- Mentors will also meet every night with the program coordinator to debrief and plan for the next day.
- Mentors will provide mentorship to students throughout the summit regarding academics and ways to be successful in a collegiate environment.
- Mentors should expect to be working from approximately 8:00 AM – 9:00 PM for the duration of the summit.
- The Mentors will help the Summit coordinators in student outreach and preparing materials for the Summit.
- Mentors will stay in the dormitory for the duration of the summit, Laurel Village, and may share a room with another mentor.
- Mentors must abide by CSU’s Protection of Minors policy at all times. Failure to do so will result in immediate termination.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Be a first-generation college student.
- Be a Business Administration Major or Minor.
- Proficient in a bilingual environment.
Required Qualifications:
- Mentor Level II must have been a Student Mentor for the First-Generation Business Summit previously.
- Current CSU Student
- Have a cumulative GPA of a 2.5 GPA or higher.
HOURLY RATE & STARTING DATE:
This is a residential position with room and board paid and wage earnings of $18.00/hour for Student Mentors Level II (plus overtime). Most days you can expect it to be 12-14 hours, breaks are available. You will need to work with staff to arrange breaks. You will be expected to be present and reside in the provided student housing for all six days of the Summit. There will be an all Student Mentor training on April 14, 2026, followed by four more one-hour trainings before the start of the Summit. The trainings after May 6 will be hybrid, and attendance is mandatory.
