Audio Visual Project Engineer

🎧💡 Project Engineer (a.k.a. The Person Who Actually Knows How It All Works) 💡🎧

🚀 Why Ford AV?

For over 50 years, Ford AV has been the reason rooms don’t sound terrible, screens actually turn on, and technology mostly behaves itself.

We partner with major businesses, universities, and public institutions to design and build systems that make people say,
👉 “Wow…this just works.”

And behind that magic?
👉 Project Engineers. (Yes, that’s you.)

🧠 What You’ll Actually Do

You’re the bridge between “we sold it” and “it works perfectly.”

  • 🎯 Design systems – Audio, video, lighting, acoustics…you make it all make sense
  • 📐 Create drawings – CAD/AutoCAD is your playground
  • 🔍 Test systems – Because “it should work” is not good enough
  • 🗣️ Translate tech to humans – Turn complicated engineering into something people understand
  • 🤝 Collaborate – PMs, installers, clients…you’re the glue holding it all together
  • 📝 Document everything – Because “I think we talked about that” is not documentation

🔧 How We Train You (This Matters)

We offer an installation training track (6–12 months) for our Project Engineers.

Why? Because our founder—who is also an engineer—has learned over 50+ years that the best engineers aren’t just taught…they’re built in the field.

You’ll take what you learned in the classroom and apply it in real-world environments—working with tools, systems, and installation teams—so when you design something, you actually understand how it gets built.

🧩 What Makes You a Fit

  • You know your way around CAD/AutoCAD
  • You’ve touched programming (C, C#, Crestron, Extron, AMX…you’ve seen at least one of these in the wild)
  • You can explain complex things without sounding like a robot
  • You’re organized enough to keep projects (and people) on track
  • You have a degree in engineering/tech…or enough real-world experience to prove you don’t need one

🎓 New grads welcome (as long as you’re ready to learn fast and work hard)

🎯 Bonus Points

  • You’ve designed or installed AV systems before
  • You’ve collected certifications like Dante, Q-SYS, CTS, etc.
  • You’ve been the “go-to” person when something technical breaks

💰 What You Get

  • Competitive pay + full benefits (medical, dental, vision, life, etc.)
  • 401(k) with matching 💸
  • Paid training + certifications (we invest in you)
  • PTO + holidays
  • A team that actually supports each other (yes, really)
  • Real career growth—we promote from within 🚀

⚠️ Important (Read This Before You Apply)

  • This is not a remote job — you’ll be in the office and occasionally in the field
  • We do not offer relocation assistance for new employees
  • You’ll need to be comfortable working in both office and real-world job site environments

⚖️ The Reality Check

This role lives in both worlds:

  • 🖥️ Office: designing, documenting, coordinating
  • 🏗️ Field: checking installs, climbing ladders, occasionally dealing with weather and dust

You’ll think. You’ll build. You’ll troubleshoot.
And sometimes…you’ll explain for the third time why turning it off and on again actually works.

🧩 Bottom Line

If you like solving problems, designing systems, and being the person everyone turns to when things get complicated…

👉 You’ll thrive here.

If you want a job where nothing ever breaks, no one asks questions, and everything is easy…
👉 That job does not exist 😄
