The mission of KCSU is to teach students to collaboratively operate a radio station that offers audio & multi-media education by providing hands-on learning experiences that amplify student voices to create content informing and inspiring our listeners.
Engineering Department Overview: The Broadcast Engineer(s) are responsible for all equipment, logs, software, and on-air issues at KCSU. They will have hands-on experience fixing our hardware and software programs, equipment, broadcast faults, etc. The engineer(s) are the first point of contact for all broadcast/station emergencies.
Supervision given and received: The Broadcast Engineer reports to the KCSU General Manager.
Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Knowledge of networking and basic IT systems
- Understanding of technical facilities including audio broadcasting/production (this may include additional knowledge of audio/electrical wiring)
- Ability to quickly troubleshoot, repair, maintain, and install systems that facilitate the operation of the radio station.
- Ability to work independently and sometimes with little to no direction.
- Able to innovate new ideas and improve on existing ideas that will improve the quality of the radio station.
- Familiarity with researching technical purchases online.
- Willingness to read manuals.
- Willingness to create solutions that not only solve a problem but solves it in a way that will improve the work of all KCSU staff and volunteers.
- Knowledge (or comfortability learning) cable soldering and wiring

KCSU is looking for students interested in learning by doing and gaining knowledge through experience. Interested applicants are not expected to know everything about radio equipment.
Your application should include:

Instructions: Email a PDF of your completed application packed to asher.korn@colostate.edu by midnight April 16th. In your email, please include all the times you are available for a 1 hour interview between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. from April 20th to April 24th.

All paid KCSU staff are expected to apply for non-need work study in early April and use this for their position at KCSU, unless need based work study has been awarded.

Hourly Pay Rate: All KCSU positions pay starts at $15.16 an hour, with hours varying between departments/positions. It is anticipated hours for this position will fluctuate, especially during active KCSU technical issues/emergencies.
- The Broadcast Engineer works 8 hours a week for the 2026-27 academic year
- All KCSU staff positions must either be a CSU, Front Range, or local high school/college student enrolled for at least one credit hour.
