DNR Historic Resources Specialist

The AmeriCorps Historic Resources Specialist (ages 18-25) will assist the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Division of Parks and Trails (PAT) staff in organizing, arranging, preserving, and cataloging the extensive collection of historic documents and materials at Croft Mine Historical Park and Hill Annex Mine State Park. This may include assisting the Itasca County Historical Society in cultivating relationships with the community, providing education and outreach to community groups, and preparing environmental review documents, internet content, press releases and newsletter articles.

JOB DETAILS:
-- Location: Grand Rapids, MN
-- AmeriCorps service position (ages 18-25 preferred)
-- Term dates: January 9- December 14, 2018
-- Schedule: Full-time, Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. typical.
-- Stipend: $1990/mo
-- Education award: $5815 upon successful completion of term

QUALIFICATIONS:
-- Bachelors degree in planning, outdoor recreation/parks planning/administration, landscape architecture, archeology, museum studies, archives management, geography, natural resources management or relevant field; or a combination of college-level coursework and professional experience in related fields.
-- Strong written and oral communication skills.
-- Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
-- Strong planning, organizational and creative thinking skills.
-- Desire and ability to work with diverse youth, adults and other volunteers in conservation, education and recreation settings.
-- Positive attitude and interest in community service.
-- Knowledge of state and federal planning policies and regulations and experience working with local land use management programs preferred.
-- Database management skills preferred.
-- Training will be provided in these areas as needed; 15-20% of the service term is dedicated to technical and personal skills training.
