Internship Title: Capitol Collections and Interpretation Internship - Fall 2026

Internship Location: State Capitol Building, 200 East Colfax Ave., Denver, CO (This position is in-person and not available for remote work.)

Stipend: $1,500. The stipend is not salary or compensation. The stipend is meant to support study and research during the tenure of the appointment and will be issued upon completion of the internship.

 

Qualified candidates may receive academic credit through their college or university. *Check with your school's Internship Coordinator BEFORE accepting the hiring offer to determine if this position satisfies the criteria for receiving academic credit.

Desired Schedule:  apx. 8-10 hours/week on Mondays-Wednesdays anytime between 9-4 (for 10 weeks between September 21-December 4, 2026).

Broad Scope of Position: The internship will be divided into two areas, Collections and Interpretation.

  • Collections: The internship will give students the chance to learn and enhance skills in basic object handling, cataloging, photography, storage organization, and project workflow. This internship will inventory, label, house, and photograph historical art and furnishings in a public building.   
  • Interpretation: Work with Capitol staff on interpretation and exhibits for the building.

Outcomes: This internship will provide the student or recent graduate with valuable on-the-job training. Students will participate in a significant collections stewardship project that will introduce them to cataloging, photography, and museum collections deliverables.

Desired Skills & Academic Field of Study: Current or recent undergraduate or Master’s student with focus in History, Art History, Anthropology, Library Science, Museum Studies or related fields. Intern needs to be comfortable with working in spaces with the public and have the following skills:

  • Must remain nonpartisan in a highly partisan environment;
  • Ability to work in hot or uncomfortable conditions,
  • Ability to traverse steep stairs 
  • Ability to follow directions well
  • Strong computer skills
  • Familiarity working with a camera or phone camera and spreadsheets or related degree programs.
