Position Summary
The Chemistry Department is seeking an outreach coordinator to work alongside our current outreach coordinator to prepare and teach chemistry shows at schools and community events. This position involves writing lesson plans, designing science demonstrations based on topics requested by teachers, attending STEM-related events, and promoting chemistry outreach throughout the community.
The ideal candidate will work with a variety of Chemistry Department staff and students, community members, and volunteers to create programming that educates the community about science, specifically chemistry, in a fun and safe manner that positively promotes the outreach program and the CSU Chemistry Department. Co-coordinators are charged with fostering appreciation and curiosity for science among students and community members.
Outreach responsibilities are primarily carried out in person, with occasional remote programming as needed.
Hours are irregular and based on scheduled events.
Must be available for events throughout the week, including evenings and weekends; most events occur during fall and spring semesters, with some limited summer work.

Essential Duties
Share responsibilities equally and in collaboration with the other outreach co-coordinator
Planning and conducting Ram Welcome activities prior to the start of fall semester
Planning and conducting the annual Chemistry Halloween show for the Fort Collins community
Planning and collaborating with the Chemistry Club to host the annual Chemistry Department spring event
Coordinate with community members and teachers to schedule and run classroom shows at all education levels, including elementary, middle, and high school students
Design and adapt lesson plans and chemistry demonstrations to reflect teacher requests
Coordinate with the CSU Residence Assistants to schedule and run programs for students living in campus residence halls
Actively coordinate and plan with Chemistry Club for event programs and support
Attend Chemistry Club weekly meetings
Actively communicate and organize volunteers to assist in programs, classes, and shows
Positively promote and grow the Chemistry Outreach program at all available opportunities
Complete necessary trainings and a training period under the current outreach co-coordinator to ensure program continuity and safety of volunteers and students
