Weisberg Stables Internship program is
designed to immerse participants in the daily
operations of a working farm and provide
participants with a unique opportunity to
work with a variety of equines in their daily
care and management, breeding, training and
use in therapeutic programs. Through
education and interaction students gain
experience working with a variety of equine
professionals and interacting with the public
and local community throughout the process.
Interns can expect to gain significant equine
husbandry experience, receive basic training
in natural horsemanship and a variety of
desensitizing techniques, learn about horse
psychology and its application in everyday
handling and training, and participate in a
variety of therapeutic programs involving equines.
The program is tailored to those with a desire to obtain a career in equine
management, equine breeding, equine assisted learning, or therapeutic riding
Please be aware that this is physically demanding program requiring
participants to work on their feet for extended periods of time. Interns will
be expected to assist with the completion of barn chores on a daily basis.
Applicants must be at least 18 years old, should be currently enrolled or a recent
graduate of an equine science program or have previous experience working with
horses in a professional setting.
Interns will develop teamwork and leadership skills by caring for a population of
25+ horses, learning from knowledgeable staff, coordinating enthusiastic
volunteers, participating in and assisting with philanthropic and therapeutic
programs and other community outreach programs.
