Recipient Farm Team Herdsman

Position Purpose:  General care of livestock in the Oklahoma program.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Assists with chute work including processing, backgrounding, aspirations, transfers, and pregnancy checks.
  • Provides general daily care to cattle including observing animals for health.
  • Sorts cattle for heats, syncs, and pregnant cow to go home.
  • Loads, unloads, and transports cattle.
  • Assist with animal nutrition and daily feeding, including maintaining pen counts and assisting with feed calculation.
  • Removes dead livestock.
  • Assist with sorting and loading wean calves, donors, and recipients for clients.
  • Generates sorting and synchronization lists.
  • Assists with yard maintenance including but not limited to manure hauling, snow removal, box scraping and fencing.
  • Keep livestock clean, comfortable, and free from stress, disease, and injury.
  • Assist with inventory of livestock.
  • Assist with monitoring the activity at the birthing location and communicating calving detail to data entry team.
  • Provide communication of livestock health issues to the production team leader.
  • Identifies and sells cull cows
  • Implements animal health directives and assignments of Staff Technical Services Vet.
  • Provide reproductive management including:
  • Hormone injections.
  • Heat Detection.
  • Insemination.
  • Palpations.
  • Maintain facilities:
  • Clean pens.
  • Repairs and Maintenance.
  • Keep facilities picked up and orderly.
  • Maintain a professional image:
  • Maintain a presentable appearance.
  • Client information given should be kept positive and confidential.
  • Follow Trans Ova’s policies and procedures.
  • Maintains a professional imagine reflective of Trans Ova’s industry position.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Education Requirements:
Minimum high school diploma or G.E.D.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
Working conditions are primarily an outdoor environment with extreme temperatures, wind, and muddy conditions. Animals, especially if handled improperly, can cause injury. Ability to be on feet walking, or standing for long periods of time. 
Other skills/experience:
Prior cattle handling experience is helpful.
Must be good with numbers.
Must have legible penmanship.
Computer experience preferred.
