The Idaho State Department of Agriculture is currently recruiting for a Technician 3 in the Plant Industries Division in Boise.
This position plans, organizes, and coordinates technical activities for multiple hydrilla and invasive projects and programs; estimates equipment, materials, and manpower; establishes schedules and priorities and evaluates equipment and materials for adequacy, availability, and serviceability.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in treatment efforts for Eurasian watermilfoil and other aquatic invasive weeds
  • Data entry for veliger, invasive species, and noxious weeds projects
  • Assist in coordinating activities with the seasonal employees for survey and eradication efforts
  • Aquatic invasive species plant and animal field surveys (plankton tow, rake-toss, sediment grab, etc.)
  • Shipment of specimens and water samples for chemical, taxonomic, or genetic analyses
  • Equipment maintenance, repair, storage, and winterization
  • Support of the Agriculture Program Specialist to troubleshoot, oversee, and train watercraft inspection stations
  • Inspection and decontamination of fouled watercraft
  • Education and outreach for public and user groups
  • Contact and communicate with training groups and subcontractors
  • Research and place orders for supplies and equipment online
  • Investigations of reports of potentially invasive weeds, grasshoppers, Mormon crickets, crayfishes, turtles, snakes, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned
  • A cell phone with an Idaho area code, furnished by the employee, is required for this position and is eligible for reimbursement under the Cell Phone Reimbursement policy
Minimum Qualifications:  These qualifications are mandatory requirements.
  • Good knowledge of scientific methods
  • Experience performing basic sampling, monitoring or research activities
  • Experience compiling and collecting data and preparing reports
Desirable Qualifications: These qualifications are not required however if you have the related background it may increase your score.
  • Knowledge of local, state and federal regulations/laws related to motorized recreational boating use
  • With or without a reasonable accommodation, the ability to stand, swim and work in very cold water for eight or more hours per shift, lift and move material weighing up to 60 pounds, climb on and off transport trucks, and work in all types of weather conditions
  • Experience applying GIS/GPS data collection in environmental or natural resource planning and analysis
Temporary appointments from this announcement, serving at least one thousand forty (1,040) hours of continuous service, may be hired as an entrance probationary employee without further examination for the same classification and location as announced.
