A Biological Restoration Technician is sought for Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington, to provide Integrated Natural Resources Management Plan support that promotes rare ecosystem functions. Work will include fire-line preparation, oak and pine plantings, invasive species control, and other work that promotes the recovery/restoration of disturbed areas.
Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) is located 9.1 miles south-southwest of Tacoma, Washington, and is a training and mobilization center for all services and is the only Army power projection base west of the Rocky Mountains. The facility is under the U.S. Army Joint Base Garrison, and includes the U.S. Army’s Fort Lewis and the U.S. Air Force’s McChord Air Force Base. JBLM is 90,000 acres with one of the largest remaining intact forest areas in the Puget Sound basin.

Required Qualifications:
  • The successful candidate must be legally eligible to work in the United States by proposed start date. CEMML will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license by the employment start date.
  • High School diploma, GED or equivalent.
  • Experience in restoration ecology.
  • Experience maintaining restoration equipment and tools and performing safety checks.
  • Experience developing outreach / documents of instruction.
  • Knowledge/experience with South Puget Lowland species and habitats.
  • Able to obtain a Washington Pesticide Applicator’s License.
  • Experience and understanding of management of active duty personnel, specifically duties of someone with a rank E7.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science in restoration ecology or related area of applied science.
  • Experience working on military installations or in a hierarchical organization.
  • Experience working with field crews and concurrently supervise projects.
  • Oversight of data collection and quality.
  • Able to execute protocols for animal and plant surveys, invasive species control, restoration projects, mapping projects, etc.
  • 4×4 driving experience; experience driving/operating tractors or similar equipment.
