Viral Cultures/Rabies Medical Lab Technologist

The Virology/Serology (VS) Unit performs highly complex laboratory tests to identify infections with a variety of bacterial and viral pathogens of public health significance. The majority of reports generated by this unit are used by state and local health officials in the diagnosis, treatment, surveillance, and control of communicable disease. Molecular testing (RT-PCR) is also routinely available for some viral agents, such as influenza, mumps, measles, herpes, VZV, and enteroviruses. This laboratory is also the only lab that performs diagnostic rabies testing in North Carolina.
