Research and Development Intern

Summary
The EnviroTech Services, Inc. ESI is offering a paid internship position where you can utilize, learn and develop the laboratory skills needed to begin the transition from academics to a successful professional career in the sciences. You will be an integral part of a team that interacts with every part of the company, participating in guided and independent laboratory tasks that have a direct impact on the performance of ESI. The R&D intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks, mainly encompassed around providing support to the R&D team in the areas of product development, product testing, field evaluation and quality control in the disciplines of de-icing and unpaved road stabilization.

Dates, Hours, and Duration: The intern position is available immediately. The R&D Team works 8:00 am – 5:00 pm, Monday – Friday. This intern may work up to 10-15 hours a week with opportunity work additional hours during the summer; times are flexible based on the candidate’s availability. The duration of this internship will be based on the individual’s performance and fit within the company. This internship could lead to a full time position based on needs. As an intern, this position is not company benefit eligible.

Minimum Qualifications
• Current student with four or more semesters of undergraduate or graduate courses completed
• Degree emphasis in Chemistry, Engineering or a closely related program
• Available for a minimum of 18 consecutive months

Preferred Qualifications
• Previous experience working in a lab
• Strong math skills
• Excellent communication skills both verbally and written 
• Ability to work independently and in a group/team setting
• Must be able to set priorities and meet deadlines
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
• Proficient with MS Office (emphasis on Excel), Gmail and Google Docs

Duties and Responsibilities
• Work directly with VP of R&D and product development chemists in developing reports of all products under development, and their stage of development
• Assist in the creation of research and development proposals such as the objective or purpose of a project, applications that can be utilized from findings, costs of project, and equipment
• Work under the direct supervision of the VP of R&D to develop new processes or methods that are consistent with developing innovative and technically superior products and solutions that fulfill the strategic needs of the company
• Work with the New Products/New Markets team through the Stage-Gate Process in order to execute product development plans
• Conduct experimental procedures to investigate potential solution
• Conduct computer based research of new and competing technologies

Work Environment 
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Physical Requirements
Regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
