Neighborhood House, After-school Program AC Member

The Neighborhood House Youth Tutoring and Resource Centers specialize in providing quality afterschool programming for students aged K-12th grade. The program curriculum is designed to improve the students' skills, academically and socially, while also providing a fun, community environment where the students feel supported. The NH tutoring staff place high importance on incorporating student feedback when planning program activities. We believe that youth should have a voice in the types of services and experiences available to them.

Program hours take place Monday through Thursday, in the late afternoon/early evening times. Members and tutoring staff spend the rest of their time creating program curriculum, performing community outreach, making connections with local schools and families, exploring community partnerships and planning field trips and/or activities for the students that will enrich their overall learning experience. Each center is run with a team approach, where staff and members collaborate closely together to design and manage all aspects of programming.

The member in this position will serve with an AmeriCorps team, consisting of seven other members. Each team member has an AmeriCorps site partner, and a full-time on-site supervisor who can provide ongoing training and support, while providing crucial assistance to underrepresented youth. Service sites are located in highly diverse communities, where families come from a variety of backgrounds and cultures. There are three communities- Seola Gardens in South Seattle/White Center, Burndale Homes in North Auburn, and Firwood Circle in South Auburn.
