RESEARCH DATA COORDINATOR

This position will coordinate with researchers and principal investigators to organize, manage, store, and archive data to be used in multiple research projects in the Center for Advanced Bioenergy and Bioproducts Innovation (CABBI).

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
·        Coordinate with Principal Investigators to develop and enforce standard operating procedures for data collection, formatting, sharing, storage and archiving.
·        Manage multiple Center-wide databases and software tools.
·        Provide quality assurance/quality control of data; develop appropriate data entry methods to ensure accuracy and continuity of data, and meet project deadlines and guidelines.
·        Ensure data is collected properly, observing any legal or ethical standards.
·        Communicate with researchers concerning missing or ambiguous data, obtain follow-up information, and curate datasets.
·        Organize data files and provide proper documentation to facilitate sharing data among CABBI researchers.
·        Collaborate with organizations such as Computer Network Resource Group at IGB, Research Data Service and Illinois Data Bank to ensure data is safe, organized, and accessible to the public when necessary.
·        Work in partnership with CABBI Research Coordinators to provide additional support on data management to the Center researchers.
 
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
·        Required: B.S. Degree in information science, computer science, biology, chemistry, engineering or related science. Alternate degree fields will be considered/accepted depending on the nature and depth of the experience as it relates to this position.
·        Preferred: M.S. Degree in biochemistry, microbiology, plant biology, crop sciences, information science or other science disciplines.
Experience:
·        Required: Background in biology or sciences; 1 year experience collecting, synthesizing, or managing large datasets and various data types.
·        Preferred: Three or more years' experience in data management. Experience working with electronic database such as Redcap and SQL preferred.

Knowledge Requirements:
·        Analytical Skills: Must be able to create efficient data intake, and analyze how data will need to be organized and curated so when needed, it can easily be accessed and utilized.
·        Communication: Work on teams with other coordinators, analysts, database administrators and others. Being a team player and working well with others is crucial.
·        Attention to Detail: Data is complex and incumbent must be able to look at the minute details to make sure it is being recorded and stored properly.
·        Logical Thinking: Ability to look at what data needs to be recorded, and determine how to store it in such a way that it will be easily used in the future.
·        Problem-Solving: Must be able to solve data problems as they arise.
·        Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Incumbent must have initiative and willingness to learn.
·        Ability to use independent judgment and work with limited supervision.
·        Ability to bring together knowledge from multiple disciplines to accomplish goals.
·        Incumbent must have an interest in working in a research environment.
·        Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Excel and Access.
 
Salary: Commensurate with experience and qualifications
Appointment Status: Full-time academic professional, grant-supported appointment renewable annually pending continued funding and satisfactory progress within the position. Qualified individuals will be eligible to receive vacation, sick, and personal leave; retirement through the State Universities Retirement System; and group health, dental, vision and life insurance.
