AmeriCorps VISTA Holiday Volunteer Coordinator

The goal of Metropolitan Ministries in the area of food security/hunger is to assess and map the food resources in Hillsborough, Pinellas and Pasco Counties to identify current resources and gaps in services which can be addressed with new food distribution sites and new food resources.

This position is an AmeriCorps VISTA position serving at Metropolitan Ministries. AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) is a national service program designed to alleviate poverty. AmeriCorps VISTA members serve full time for one-year terms. The Holiday Volunteer Coordinator VISTA will serve on one of our largest annual projects. It is a year-long responsibility wherein the candidate will have the opportunity to become part of the project from conceptual aspects to volunteer management to building partnerships to on-the-ground operations.

Position Duties & Responsibilities:
Activity 1: Research Holiday Tent locations and present to Leadership Team.
Step 1: Meet with staff, interns, and volunteers to learn about the Holiday Tent program.
Step 2: Meet with Volunteer Services and other stakeholders to identify requirements and needs for a Tent location.
Step 3: Based off of identified needs, conduct research on possible locations for the Holiday Tent.
Step 4: Present research to Leadership Team.

Activity 2: Establish, coordinate, and manage 5 partners who will distribute food and toys during the holidays
Step 1: Meet with staff, interns, and volunteers to learn about the Holiday Tent program. Review current partners.
Step 2: Work with Volunteer Services team to identify areas where partners are needed and develop a recruitment strategy to target partners.
Step 3: Develop marketing materials and other needed items from strategy to reach out to new potential partners.
Step 4 Recruit 5 partners who will work with Metropolitan Ministries to distribute food and toys to families in need during the holidays.
Step 5: Work with partners to coordinate pickup and distribution efforts. Serve as point of contact and manage partnerships.
Step 6: Record partnership contacts and potential partnership contacts in Raiser’s Edge or other identified database. 
Step 7: Compile and present a post-holiday analysis of community partner success. Provide recommendation for future years.

Activity 3: Recruit 50 Volunteer Leaders for Tampa and Pasco to serve over the Holidays.  
Step 1: Review Volunteer Team policies, MM programs and partners.
Step 2: Work with relevant staff to develop volunteer leader recruitment strategy for Holiday programming.
Step 3: Develop position descriptions for volunteer leaders.
Step 4: Develop marketing materials and other needed items from strategy to reach out to new potential volunteers.
Step 5: Recruit 50 Volunteer Leaders for Tampa and Pasco to assist with food distribution throughout the Holidays.
Step 6: Create volunteer manual or training guide for volunteers to utilize to support Holiday program.

Activity 4: Build a volunteer customer service training program and pilot the program to 50 volunteers.
Step 1: Learn about current training opportunities for volunteers.
Step 2: Research and develop training curriculum to meet volunteer educational needs.
Step 3: Schedule and market trainings to 50 Metro volunteers.
Step 4: Facilitate 2 trainings. Orchestrate and coordinate all training logistics, utilizing MM resources. 
Step 5: Evaluate training success and make tweaks for future trainings as needed.


Qualifications:

Education and Experience:
Pursuing BA/BS degree

Skill Requirements:
Must be able to work within a multi-disciplinary team framework; must be able to communicate effectively in English; dependability; demonstrates maturity and sensitivity to issues of faith, culture, and other sources of diversity; ability to plan and organize work and attend to detail; ability to handle job related matters in a professional and diplomatic manner.

Physical Requirements:
Hearing and speaking ability which allows for effective oral communication of information; physical, emotional and spiritual stamina to handle job-related issues and stress.

Other:
Demonstrates a passion for the mission and vision of AmeriCorps and Metropolitan Ministries. Must demonstrate legal authorization to work in the United States. Must pass applicable pre-internship background screening procedures.  
Must be willing to relocate to Tampa, if not already here.
