AmeriCorps VISTA Process Improvement Coordinator

The goal of Metropolitan Ministries in the area of food security/hunger is to assess and map the food resources in Hillsborough, Pinellas and Pasco Counties to identify current resources and gaps in services which can be addressed with new food distribution sites and new food resources.

This position is an AmeriCorps VISTA position serving at Metropolitan Ministries. AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) is a national service program designed to alleviate poverty. AmeriCorps VISTA members serve full time for one-year terms. Benefits for VISTA members include: A bi-weekly living allowance of $472.22; end of service cash stipend or education award of $5,920; healthcare allowance or health benefit plan; childcare if qualified; relocation allowance; loan forbearance; and training. The Process Improvement Coordinator VISTA will be responsible for the following activities:

Activity 1: Research and document process improvement methodologies and tools to help increase efficiency of Metropolitan Ministries.
 Department
Step 1: Shadow the Process Improvement Manager, program meetings, events, and activities to learn about MM’s programs and services. Thoroughly review MM’s strategic plan.
Step 2: Research process improvement methodologies and tools like lean six sigma, DMAIC, cause and effect analysis, SIPOC analysis, BPMN process map and value stream mapping.
Step 3: Document methods to reduce process completion time, improve process efficiency and quality, eliminate wasted efforts, reduce friction in business processes, and meet regulatory compliance.
Step 4: Share research with Process Improvement team. Use research to complete Activity 2.

Activity 2: Complete at least 12 process improvement projects at Metropolitan Ministries. 
Step 1: Work with Process Improvement Manager to learn about Resident Services, Counseling, Education, Outreach, Case Management teams, and other departments’ processes.
Step 2: Map and analyze existing processes and define gaps and barriers for each team.
Step 3: Define process improvement goals for each team based off of gaps and barriers.
Step 4: Map future process that will meet goals for each team.
Step 5: Provide solutions and make recommendations in writing and present to each team.
Step 6: Collaborate with teams for successful implementation of recommended solutions.
Step 7: Document implemented solutions.
