Summer Legal Internship - U.S. Department of Energy

Responsibilities

This position is with the Department of Energy, Office of Science.
Students will perform a wide variety of duties in the legal field designed to meet DOE’s mission and the student's learning objectives.
As a Legal Intern your duties may include:
  • Assist with the Department’s evaluation of inventions for patent protection on behalf of the Government.
  • Draft patent applications for filing at the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) under the supervision of an experienced patent attorney.
  • Review, research and prepare response to office actions from the USPTO under the supervision of an experienced patent attorney.
  • Assist with the Department’s annual audit programs reviewing data from the USPTO with data reported to the Department in order to identify potentially unreported inventions.
  • Assist with the scientific review and analysis of technical proposals and patent applications to help identify potentially unreported inventions.

Pay scale & grade GS 07 - 09
Salary $45,703 to $72,677 per year
