Assistant Principal

Elementary Assistant Principal
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Colorado Administrator License
2. Demonstrated administrative skills
3. Excellent verbal and written skills
4. Strong computer and technology skills
5. Strong Knowledge of 21st Century educational environment, including experiential learning, expeditionary learning, differential instruction and learning styles.
REPORTS TO:
Elementary School Principal
SUPERVISES:
Staff members designated by the principal or superintendent
JOB GOAL:
To assist the principal in providing school-wide leadership, discipline and to learn the role of principal.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES OF ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL:
1. Assists the principal in the overall administration of the school.
2. Serves as a principal in the absence of the regular principal.
3. Proposes schedules of classes and extracurricular activities.
4. Assists in safety inspections and safety drill practice activities. Assists in developing and administering practices dealing with campus control and security.
5. Supervises the reporting and monitoring of student attendance, and works with attendance supervisor for investigative follow-up actions.
6. Assists in maintaining discipline throughout the student body, and deals with special cases as necessary.
7. Serves with parent, faculty, and student groups as requested in advancing educational and related activities and objectives.
8. Performs such record-keeping functions as the principal may direct.
9. Supervises teachers as assigned by the principal.
10. Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as the principal may from time to time assign.
11. Shares with the principal the responsibility for protecting the health and welfare of students.
12. Shares with the principal matters of student attendance.
13. Make recommendations for appropriate revisions of policies and rules affecting the student’s life in the school.
14. Resolves all discipline problems in a fair and just manner, and maintains records of any disciplinary action taken.
15. Assists in the interpretation of school and district programs, policies, and procedures to students, parent, staff, and community.
16. Works with community and government agencies on problems relating to drug abuse and truancy from school.
17. Confers with parents, teachers, and counselors, support service personnel and students on matters of discipline and welfare.
18. Confers with and makes appropriate referrals to psychologists, social workers, and other personnel.
19. Assists in assigning faculty to supervision of playground and co-curricular activities.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary: Assistant Principal Salary Schedule.
Work Schedule: 195 days per year or as designated by board adopted salary schedule. 2 weeks before teachers return for the school year and 2 weeks after teachers leave for the summer break
