Public Works Intern

Position Title:  Public Works Intern - Seasonal

Nature of Work: Including, but not limited to:  Under the general supervision of the Engineering Manager or designee,  EXAMPLES of Essential Functions:  Collect and interpret data for roadway sign inventory and from roadway tube counters. Participate in construction project administration, including basic construction observation, reporting and correspondence. Take part in survey duties, including operation of equipment, documentation and data processing. Inventory the condition and locations of traffic signs.
Education and Experience:  (A) High school diploma or GED required.  (B) Completion of some college level courses in GIS, engineering, land surveying or related field preferred.
Special Requirements: Must have and maintain throughout employment a valid Driver’s License, as well as meet eligibility requirements of “acceptable driver standards” as defined by the County.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Including, but not limited to: Knowledge of basic civil engineer practices and principles; Knowledge of computer software, construction engineering and survey fundamentals; Ability to collect, analyze and interpret raw engineering and GIS data;  Ability to work largely unsupervised and independently;  Ability to work with others on a multitude of engineering and surveying tasks; Ability to work under pressure and/or frequent interruptions; Ability to understand and follow exacting verbal and written instructions; Ability to prioritize work and carry out assigned projects to completion; Ability to communicate effectively, in English, both verbally and in writing; Ability to operate listed equipment.

Location and Hours of Work: Sarpy County Public Works Department, 15100 South 84th Street; Papillion, NE 68046, SEASONAL (SUMMER)  POSITION: Hours 7:00am – 3:30 pm. Must be able to start on or before the end of  May, 2018 and end September 15, 2018 or sooner depending on incumbent’s schedule. Will work with incumbent’s schedule.
Wage: $12.00 per hour.
