Noxious Weed Coordinator

JOB SUMMARY
Conducts the daily tasks and initiatives for the program. Coordinates and implements grant funded projects including mapping and monitoring noxious weed populations; Coordinates and implements noxious weed treatment including biologicial, chemical, and manual weed control with local partners and contractors.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Botany, Biology, Natural Resource Management or other related degree, OR an equivalent combination of related education and experience.
Preferred experience in identification, management, and/or educational outreach of plants and/or invasive species.
Ability to obtain Utah Pesticide Applicator's licnese within three (3) months of hire.
A valid Driver's License issued by the State of Utah is required to operate a vehicle.
It is mandatory that all new hires receive the Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria & Pertussis) vaccine before beginning employment or provide a copy of their immunization record prior to starting employment. The immunization record must show the vaccine name and date received.
Upon hire, a two-step Tuberculosis skin test will be required. The first will need to be placed prior to starting employment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Promotes and coordinates activities and tasks associated with noxious and invasive weed grant projects.
  • Conducts inspections, investigates noxious weed infestations. Collects data and operates and maintains field office and survey equipment. Maintains complete and accurate survey field notes and assists in communication with the County Surveyors on noxious weed data.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with municipalities, counties, and other groups/agencies.
  • Coordinates with city agencies, public entities, citizen groups as well as other stakeholders' on goals and objectives of projects.
  • Educates partners about current county and state noxious weed regulations and works to resolve problems and concerns.
  • Monitors and evaluates noxious weed populations and biocontrol releases; recording changes to environmental health; contacting land owners and making recommendations.
  • Prepares and gives reports; proposes and drafts BMP's dealing with noxious weed and invasive species.
  • Assists in investigating noxious weed reports and complaints and determines location, scope and appropriate course of action are implemented.
  • Conducts studies and research into causes and solutions to noxious weed and invasive species issues; investigates methods and techniques, and develops and implements strategies for abatement and control.
  • Assists with grant and or contract processes and ensures compliance with program requirements.
  • Ensures that program related documents and forms are complete, accurate, and processed through established standards and guidelines.
  • Seeks funding for projects including implementation and overhead.
