Administrative Internship - Utah Valley Hospital (Summer 2020)

Utah Valley Hospital (formerly Utah Valley Regional Medical Center) is a 395-bed facility located in Provo, Utah, and is Utah County’s only designated level II Trauma Center. Our expert physicians, nurses, and care teams are specially trained to treat a wide range of patients, from those with the most severe injuries or illnesses to those undergoing a routine surgery or delivering a baby.
Overview of the Hospital Administration Summer Internship
The Utah Valley Hospital Administration Summer Internship is designed to augment classroom learning and to prepare future healthcare leaders for opportunities upon graduation. 
The incumbent will work directly with members of the leadership team on a variety of short-term strategic and operational improvement projects. In addition, they will partner with an executive mentor, attend leadership meetings and participate in development workshops. 
The internship should provide a useful introduction to Hospital Administration's realm of responsibility to both its patients and their families, its employees, as well as the surrounding community.  
Some of the previous summer intern projects include:
  • MRI Strategy for Utah County
  • Central Processing cost evaluation of reusable versus disposable instrumentation.
  • Supported the planning team hospital move, specifically with the Interventional Platform model.
  • Research and recommendations for Clinical Evaluation Unit
Hours: Full-Time, 40hrs/wk, Mon-Fri, 10-12 weeks during the Summer of 2020.
Application Process
The 10-12-week full-time paid summer internship will begin the end of May to beginning of June 2020 (based upon student matriculation). The following materials must be received no later than December 8, 2019 for consideration (no exceptions): 
  • Completion of this online application
  • Current Resume
  • Copy of transcripts showing current enrollment in a Master's program (education must be from an accredited institution, and will be verified)
  • One letter of Recommendation (either academic or professional)
  • One-page personal statement/cover letter, addressing the following questions:
  • Why are you interested in Healthcare Administration?
  • What do you hope to gain and contribute during your Internship?
  • Any related experience(s) that might be deemed valuable.
All pieces of the above requested information (this online application, resume, transcripts, letter of recommendation, and one-page personal statement) must be received by the expressed deadline. No late applications will be considered. No exceptions.
Candidates will be selected based upon the submitted application information and interview outcomes. Only candidates who are currently enrolled in a master's program will be considered. 
Expected Timeline:
  • Week of Dec 9th – review applications
  • Week of Dec 16th -- send out video interview invitations
  • Week of Jan 6th – face to face interviews (may subject to change based off availability)
  • Week of Jan 20th – offer extended

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree required from an accredited college or university. Intermountain verifies both degree attainment and educational institution accreditation following an offer of employment
  • Master's degree in progress at time of internship (internship done preferably between first and second years)
  • Demonstrated expertise in strategic planning, leadership, analysis, system thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Financial acumen
  • Proficient with business computer applications (i.e. Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access).
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
Preferred Requirements:
  • Preference for Graduate School students enrolled in MBA, MHA, MHSA, MPH, MPA or J.D. program(s) with institutional accreditation   
  • 3.5 - 4.0 GPA
  • Above Average GMAT/GRE/LSAT/MCAT score
