Postdoctoral Associate (Tumor Initiation & Maintenance) Deshpande Lab

SBP is a preeminent, independent biomedical research institute dedicated to understanding human biology and disease, and advancing scientific discoveries to profoundly impact human health. For over 40 years, our research has produced breakthroughs in cancer, neuroscience, immunology and children’s diseases, and is anchored by our NCI-designated cancer center and advanced drug discovery capabilities.
Postdoctoral Associate position is available in the Deshpande lab to study oncogenic mechanisms using genomic, epigenomic and biochemical methods. The lab is highly interested in candidates with experience and/or expertise in functional genomics, genetic screening and hit validation.One of the core interests of the lab is to understand regulation of key developmental processes that are important for normal stem cells and are frequently misregulated in human cancer. We are currently investigating genetic and epigenetic abnormalities in Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) using mouse models, gene targeting and genome-scale approaches. Their overarching goal is to uncover therapeutic nodes of intervention in human leukemia.
Highly motivated candidates with a Ph.D. in Cell Biology, Molecular biology, Genetics or relevant fields are encouraged to apply. We are seeking collaborative individuals who are detail oriented, with excellent communication and data organization skills.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Independently design and perform experiments and procedures with high degree of complexity, demonstrating increasing expertise with a wide range of techniques
  • Demonstrate flexibility in adapting methods and skills according to evolving project priorities
  • Provide independent experimental design and planning
  • Be able to analyze and interpret data from different sources and draw relevant conclusions
  • Demonstrate knowledge in relevant specialized disciplines
  • Be able to present results at internal and external meetings
  • Accurately document experiments
  • Contribute to writing of reports and manuscripts with increasing responsibility over time
  • Work collaboratively across lab functions and train other junior lab staff as needed 

Required Experience

  • Ph.D. degree in Science is required
  • Previous Postdoc training is not required
