Bioinformatics Technician (Degenerative Diseases) Chun Lab

Dr. Chun's Laboratory is an international team of scientists, in existence for more than 25 years, with a passion for discovery and lifting the burden of disease. Cutting-edge technologies are being used to understand the mammalian brain that include genome and transcriptome analyses of single human brain cells, novel lipid biochemical and biological analyses, and drug discovery that blends academic approaches with those found in industry.
The Bioinformatics Technician will use genomics technologies and application of knowledge databases in genomics research to assist in interpreting high throughput genomics data sets.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Retrieves large genomics and knowledge data sets
  • Creates and maintain databases for the knowledge data sets
  • Performs genomics data conversions and integrations
  • Implements algorithms for gene set level analysis

Required Experience

  • High school diploma required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Bioinformatics or Data Science, or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been attained preferred
  • Proficient in programming in R, Python, or Perl, or equivalent languages required
  • Experience working in a scientific research laboratory preferred
  • Experience working in a Unix/Linux environment preferred
  • Experience working with large genomics data sets preferred

  • Work independently as well as in a team environment
  • Be responsible and have strong time management skills
  • Able to analyze and resolve issues of moderate complexity
  • Possess strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Demonstrate professional communication and interpersonal skills
  • Professional proficiency in Microsoft Office
