Sam Shine Foundation Summer Conservation Intern

The Indiana Chapter of The Nature Conservancy is seeking a qualified college student to fill our new Sam Shine Foundation Summer Conservation Intern position. The objective of this 14-week paid internship, made possible by a generous gift from The Sam Shine Foundation, is to provide an upper-level college student with the chance to work in the field of natural area conservation while potentially earning college credit. The Intern will be supervised by experienced Nature Conservancy staff and gain valuable skills to help further their careers in conservation. They will develop plant identification skills, gain knowledge of how to use field equipment and data collection apps, and learn to interact with colleagues at a professional level.

This position is based at our Blue River Project Office in Laconia, Indiana. Most of the work will occur at preserves in Southern Indiana, however, there may be opportunities to travel and assist with projects in other areas of the state or region. This is a 21-hour per week position beginning mid-May and ending mid-August 2020.

The Intern will assist with land management activities including, but not limited to, conducting non-native species monitoring, mapping, and control; operating and maintaining small tools and equipment; assisting with research, habitat restoration projects, and ecological monitoring; fire break construction; and developing written and visual communication resources.
