Ekar Farm Internship

Hazon/ Ekar Urban Farm Summer Internship 2020
Hazon/Ekar Farm seeks 4 part-time unpaid interns to work 10-12 hours/week for two 6 week sessions: June 8 through July 20 & July 27 through August 31. 
Hazon has benefited greatly from the presence of energetic and passionate interns. We welcome the opportunity to cooperate with any university programs to provide credit. We are committed to offering interesting, fulfilling, and fun internship experiences to give you practical work experience and a firsthand view of a successful nonprofit organization. Ideal candidates major or minor in Judaic Studies, Urban Studies, Agriculture, Environmental Sustainability, Biological Diversity, Ecology, Non Profit Management, Environmental Sciences, Community Food Systems, Social Justice, Early Childhood Education, Outdoor Education, etc. Students from underserved, marginalized backgrounds encouraged to apply. 
Hazon is managing Ekar Farm, Denver’s Urban Farm inspired by Jewish values.. Our interns have the opportunity to assist Ekar in the following farm projects:
  • Ekar is moving to low and no till farming practices from traditional tractor-based cultivation. Interns will assist in this shift with research, hands on cultivation, and more. 
  • Ekar is creating educational environmental and water projects. Interns will help design and build ‘DIY’ solar and water cachement systems.  
  • Design, install, curate habitat for insects, i.e. pollinators and predators using native species and low water perennials and annuals. 
  • Assist in creating community & working with our Community Garden refugee partners, (IRC). 
  • Strengthen Denver’s food system by representing Hazon and Ekar in a wide range of collaborative projects. Coordinating with our food bank and food pantry partners. 
 & Other work as needed and complementary to Hazon’s needs and intern’s interests and skills, including field and farm work.



Optional Opportunities: 
  • Teaching Days in the Dirt, our early childhood (ECE) summer program.
    (ECE qualified candidates, please inquire about possible paid opportunities.)
  • Coaching our partner organizations in developing sustainability initiatives.
  • Support staff in planning and running meetings of Hazon and Ekar’s Colorado Advisory Boards

While you provide useful assistance to Hazon, you will gain valuable on-the-job training that will assist you with your future career search. Your supervisor will work with you closely to set your personal goals for your internship experience and help you develop marketable skills for your future. Your supervisor will be your resource to make sure you are on track and will meet with you regularly, providing effective feedback and meaningful guidance. 

Intern responsible to supply own computer, phone, workspace, and transportation to and from Ekar Farm in Lowry. Interns are provided with real work and real responsibilities, as such we seek mature candidates with strong follow through and work ethic. The ideal candidate is passionate about the intersection of food, sustainability, and Jewish values. Candidate enjoys working/being outdoors; is organized, responsible and reliable, self-motivated, detail-oriented, has a professional demeanor; is a compassionate interpersonal communicator able to interact with a wide range of people from all backgrounds; able to do small tasks while thinking big; and is a team-player who contributes to a friendly work atmosphere.
