About the Program
The UPMC Intern – Media and Public Relations – Corporate/Clinical Summer Program is an 11-week, paid internship. As an Intern, you will have the opportunity to work in Media and Public Relations Department. The teams works to introduce, reinforce, and maintain the UPMC reputation as well as promote UPMC’s mission on a local, regional, and national level. Areas of focus in the UPMC Media and Public Relations – Corporate/Clinical division includes:
Research- Creating strategies to develop comprehensive communications plans to promote innovative research at UPMC and University of Pittsburgh School of Health Sciences. Responsibilities may include project management, research and content development for public relations tactics, conducting interviews and coordinating media and researching elements for potential media coverage.
Crisis Readiness - The media relations team works to prepare for operational and reputational crises impacting UPMC. The crisis readiness team conducts leadership training in effective crisis management, reviews and updates the department’s crisis communication readiness plan and effectively responds to media inquiries during a disruption, keeping the public accurately informed.
Clinical Excellence – The media relations team works to procure local, national and international media placements highlighting pioneering UPMC clinicians and innovative treatments.
During your internship program, you will have the opportunity to network with UPMC Executives, receive mentorship, enhance your communications skills with hands-on real-world experience and training, and most importantly, work on projects that make an impact on patient care while gaining knowledge on how we provide Life Changing Medicine. And have a little bit of fun too!

Qualifications
• Current Junior or Senior pursuing a Bachelor’s degree with a target graduation
 date between December 2019 and August 2021 required.
• Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher required.
• Availability to participate as a Summer Intern full-time from June to August
 2020 for approximately 11 weeks with minimal absence (Yes, don’t worry, you
 can still enjoy some summer vacation time!)
