Business Internship (Graduate Student)

The Student Internship provides an opportunity for current MBA/MHA candidates to receive administrative experience in a healthcare operations business unit. The intern will work closely with the clinical program management team at Selecthealth. The intern will perform key department projects, assess processes, management of controls such as documentation of workflows and online reference tools, perform process audits toward standard work and implementation of Intermountain Operating Model. Team player in supporting key departmental initiatives and leadership. Strong organizational skills, process improvement orientation, use of technology including Excel and Visio, comfort with reports and analysis of data required. This role is a 12 week or one semester paid assignment.

Essential Job Duties
  • 1. Participates and is involved in a variety of projects that support the needs of the department/facility: Works with the members of the team to identify solutions and performs tasks that accomplish individual and team goals. Attends team/department meetings and actively participates/takes on opportunities to share knowledge and skills that are pertinent to the meeting.
  • 2. Gains knowledge of the department's/facilities functions: Works with other members of the department / facility to accomplish assigned tasks.
  • 3. May be assigned one or more specific projects during the internship. Demonstrates an understanding of the process and accountability for the results/outcomes. Works independently or as a member of a team to accomplish the tasks necessary to successfully complete the project. Involves others when needed in a timely manner and works to meet project timelines.
  • 4. Works on special assignments as directed by their preceptor / mentor - either individually or as a member of a project team. Collaborates with key stakeholders and subject matter experts as appropriate.
  • 5. Assesses problems through appropriate data collection and analysis techniques.
  • 6. Identifies and recommends appropriate action steps for problem resolution.
  • 7. Implements action steps for improvement and evaluates effectiveness of problem solution process and outcome.

  • Entry Rate: $20/hour

Minimum Requirements
  • Concurrently enrolled in and progressing through their education program in a related field of study. Must provide documentation of enrollment in an accredited program, any earned degree or certification that may be required.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the knowledge and skills in the field directly related to the intern opportunity.
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated organization skills, detail oriented and the ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Demonstrated ability to consistently maintain a good rapport and a positive demeanor with employees and customers.
  • Demonstrated initiative and willingness to take on additional assignments when needed.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as independently.

Preferred Requirements
  • Recent undergraduate or current candidate/recent Master's Degree in Business (MBA), Healthcare Administration (MHA)
  • Master's degree candidate (Business, Healthcare Management) or recent undergraduate in these areas. Degree must be obtained through an accredited institution. Education is verified.
  • Demonstrated quality academic
  • Experience demonstrating conceptual, analytic and problem solving skills.
  • Experience using word processing, excel spreadsheet, database, visio work process tools internet and and scheduling applications.
  • Experience in a role requiring effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Highly organized. Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills. Quality Improvement orientation.
