Wind Technician II - ALLETE Clean Energy

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Under general direction, performs routine preventative maintenance and repair activities consistent with policies and procedures on wind turbines.
  • Completes quality checks on turbine maintenance and repairs performed by service provider.
  • Maintains roadways, collector lines, buildings, fences, and other balance of plant assets on site.
  • Performs high and medium voltage switching to isolate turbines and electric feeder circuits.
  • Attends regular safety meetings and follows appropriate company safety and environmental policies.
  • Works within clearly defined standard operating procedures and adheres to quality guidelines.
Typical Physical/Mental/Environmental Demands:
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; particulate matter and outside weather conditions. 
  • The employee is frequently exposed to risk of electrical shock. 
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to hazardous chemicals. 
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. 
  • The employee must be capable of lifting and/or moving up to 100 pounds. 
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
REQUIRED EDUCATION:
  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Preference may be given to applicants that have completed a wind technician training program.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
  • Four years or more technical wind industry experience, OR in absence of technical wind industry experience, six years or more experience working with hydraulic, electrical, mechanical skills and demonstrated competencies as a wind technician.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Valid Driver’s license required.
  • Must be able to meet the physical/mental/environmental demands of the position.
  • Ability to:
  • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures manuals. 
  • Write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Understand and follow customary instructions in order to perform the essential functions of the position in a satisfactory manner.
  • Add, subtract, multiply, and divide, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Work with limited supervision, given proper instructions.
  • Understand and carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. 
  • Understand problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations and report them to the appropriate supervisory personnel.
  • Work with minimal supervision, given proper instructions.
  • Work in mechanically and electrically oriented situations.
  • Effective carry-out the Essential Functions of the position.
  • Knowledge of basic electrical testing equipment, commonly used bolts and torque values.
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions for this position.
  • Skill in the care and use of tools and equipment utilized for this position.
  • First aid, CPR, AED, forklift certification, and OSHA 10 certification preferred. 
  • Heavy equipment operations (i.e. Loader, Grader, Tractor, Bucket Truck) experience is desirable.
  • Regular attendance is required.
  • This position may be subject to assessment of skills, job match and/or aptitude.
