HVAC and Controls Technician

Job Overview
Reporting to the Sr. Manager of Facilities, the HVAC and Controls Technician position is a full-time salaried position based out of the Toronto Blue Jays’ Player Development Complex (PDC) in Dunedin, Florida. The HVAC and Controls Technician is responsible for operating the building’s systems and operations, responding to building-related emergencies, managing maintenance requests, and providing administrative, operational and technical service and support.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operating the heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) systems by adjusting computerized controls, which regulate the temperature within the building, and monitoring performance of the HVAC equipment 
  • Maintaining the HVAC systems by performing preventative maintenance on equipment as scheduled, recording chiller readings daily, troubleshooting all problems associated with the building automation to which all equipment is connected to, and repairing minor and complex equipment problems 
  • Maintaining the fire alarm systems by ensuring that all equipment is in working order, repairing broken equipment and testing equipment periodically 
  • Monitoring water treatment system by ensuring that the correct amounts of chemical are added and ensuring that the system is accurately tested daily
  • Assisting staff by repairing equipment or adjusting controls to meet their needs; resolving problems such as leaks, odors, etc. 
  • Inputting, tracking and monitoring work orders accurately and daily
  • Other duties as assigned

Physical Requirements
  • Bending, carrying, climbing, crawling, crouching, grasping, kneeling, lifting up to 50 pounds (23 kg), pulling, pushing, running, sitting, standing, stooping, stretching, twisting and walking (up to 6 hours a day) to perform job tasks
  • Seeing and touching, hearing and smelling required to determine problems with and repair equipment

Working Conditions
  • Work within the environment of the PDC which includes industrial garbage, human bodily waste, cold, grease, isolation, smoke, dirt, oil, noise, dust, heat, odors, fire, electricity, poor lighting, etc.
  • Exposure to various weather elements
  • Exposure to hazards such as chemicals that can burn, noxious fumes, poor ventilation, things which cause cuts such as filters on fan coil units, checking electrical equipment, inhalation of things which cause breathing difficulties, tripping, etc.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with Building Automation Systems is required
  • METASYS is preferred
  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience in physical plant operations with HVAC troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to check content, controls and gauges, as well as operate and repair equipment such as mechanical fans, chillers, emergency generators, fire safety equipment, air conditioning units, washroom exhaust fans, make-up air units, water treatment, lighting, etc. 
  • Experience with facilities management software or CMMS, and inventory management/tracking software is required
  • EPA type 1 and 2 or Universal refrigeration certification is preferred 
  • Building Operating or Building Engineer Certification is preferred 
  • Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced work environment 
  • Good mechanical, analytical, research and problem-solving skills 
  • Ability to make sound decisions in emergency situations in a controlled and professional manner (i.e. fire alarms & floods) 
  • Self-starter with practical judgment and a decisive manner
  • Desire to work as part of a collaborative, high-performing and cross-functional team
  • Legally able to work in the United States
  • Valid drivers license
  • Ability and willingness to perform key responsibilities listed above at our TD Ballpark location
  • Ability and willingness to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts as required
