Intern/Short Term Engineering Project

About this Job

Seeking a hands-on, operation-minded intern or recent graduate for a short term project manager position. This is an outstanding opportunity to work directly with the owner of this small consumer eCommerce and manufacturing company to help us manage our move to a new warehouse. You will lead this project on a day-to-day basis, ensuring we're planning and executing the warehouse move in an optimal and efficient way. Requires strong planning and project management skills, using a Gantt chart or similar planning tool, and hands-on management of the team of movers. Training and mentorship to be provided by the business owner, who is a Duke graduate and Harvard MBA. This role offers a rare opportunity for a young person to have a hands-on management experience and to have a real impact on company progress and growth.  Job will be located between our current and new warehouses, both in Richmond, CA.

Key Project Elements:
  • Meet with business owner on a daily basis to plan and review all aspects of the move
  • Manage the day-to-day details of the warehouse move, including driving a truck between locations, doing internet research and online purchasing of key materials/items, setting the daily work schedule for the moving team, laying out and managing the placement of equipment in the new warehouse

Required Skills

  • Highly organized and handy operations person who can manage both at a high/strategic level as well as at the ground level
  • Not afraid to get hands dirty, dig into the details and help make things happen
  • Strong planning skills, using detailed gantt charts or other planning tools to get into detailed elements of the overall project plan
  • Ability to work with/manage the moving team to make sure things are executed as intended and on plan
  • Can conduct internet or other research to purchase necessary materials/equipment, rent equipment such as forklifts, flatbed trucks, etc.
  • Independent: Can lead most aspects of the project independently on a day to day basis, while communicating effectively with company management and the moving team

Preferred Experience

  • Graduating college senior with relevant internship/work experience, especially in industrial project management or warehouse operations
  • Operational/warehouse business experience a big plus
  • Comfort with online research, corporate purchasing a plus
  • Strong analytical skills. Proficient in MS Excel and other analytical resources. 
  • Strong preference for engineering majors, but open to all fields of study
