The Eugene Water & Electric Board (EWEB) seeks an electrical engineer to provide support to EWEB's Generation team.  EWEB’s Generation Engineering group supports the utility’s hydroelectric and steam turbine power plant facilities and their ancillary systems (dams, flow control gates, fish screens, boilers, step-up transformers, etc). The successful candidate will perform planning, design, modification, and upgrade projects for these power generation facilities, provide support of operations and maintenance activities, and manage control system assets. Assignments will also include the coordination and oversight of similar work that is performed by consulting engineers and EWEB’s control system/electrical technicians. The work requires close collaboration with operations staff during the design process and in troubleshooting incidents.

This position fulfills an important role in maintaining and improving the reliability of EWEB’s power generation systems. The position provides the opportunity to work within a multi-disciplinary engineering group to complete a wide variety of technical and project management assignments. Responsibilities include monitoring the performance of existing assets, planning and analysis to select preferred alternatives for improvements, budgeting for implementation, preparing design drawings and specifications, procuring material and service contracts, providing field oversight of upgrade activities, developing standard operating/maintenance procedures, and completing work within budget and schedule constraints.

The successful candidate will
  • Demonstrate experience or an appropriate background for developing skill in the planning, analysis, design, implementation, commissioning, and support for the operation and maintenance of power generation electrical and control systems.
  • Possess knowledge/experience with industrial process control systems, associated field instrumentation, and remote communications telemetry.
  • Represent EWEB with external organizations and at conferences and will participate in trainings as necessary to stay knowledgeable about important electrical engineering/control system issues.
  • Perform assigned tasks in collaboration with senior engineering staff.
  • Have the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and the ability to interpret electrical design drawings, instrument diagrams, system maps and schematics, and related control system hardware and software documentation.
  • Provide technical support to technicians in a collaborative engineering/operations team environment, maintaining effective working relationships with other employees, departments, consultants, and contractors.
