The candidate must be an energetic and outgoing leader, knowledgeable in person-centered dementia programming, the disease process, and family support. This position requires someone who can plan, implement and lead dementia programs, coordinate training for care associates, participate in the care plan process, demonstrate leadership skills, manage the department budget and supplies, and be a resource to associates, family and community professionals regarding the program and benefits. It also requires an understanding of therapeutic and behavioral interventions and techniques for effectively interacting with individuals with cognitive impairment.
 
Qualifications include education and experience in designing and implementing programs with residents who have Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia in a residential setting, and a bachelor’s degree in therapeutic recreation, recreation management, gerontology or related fields. At least one or more years of direct programming experience with older adults and persons with dementia is preferred. He or she must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications such as Excel and Outlook. A driver’s license and good driving record are required. Work schedules include some evenings, weekends and holidays.

Qualifications

What it takes to be a Program Coordinator at Brookdale:
Our program coordinators plan, coordinate and facilitate a calendar of dementia friendly programs that meet specific needs of each and all residents within the dementia care community. You will provide person centered life enrichment programs while engaging residents in meaningful and purposeful programs within the Brookdale community enhancing their quality of life. A Bachelor’s Degree in therapeutic recreation, gerontology, education or related field preferred.
