Medical Biller
GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Provide timely and efficient billing process, oversee charge entry, verifying CPT & ICD-10 codes, appealing denials/monitoring claims maintenance, and handling collection on past due accounts.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Research all information needed to complete billing process including getting charge information from physicians
- Verify/review procedure and diagnosis coding for services performed
- Review and verify charge information and add appropriate modifiers into EMR
- Prepare and submit clean claims to various insurance companies, either electronically or by paper
- Evaluate patient's financial status and establish budget payment plans
- Perform various collection actions including contacting patients by phone or mail
- Correct and resubmit insurance claims
- Review accounts for possible collection assignment and prepare information for collection agency
- Identifies and resolves errors with coding and billing
- Answer questions from patients, staff, and insurance companies
- Maintain patient confidentiality and follow HIPAA guidelines
- Maintain website and passwords to insurance companies in order to facilitate data collection and research abilities
- Other duties as assigned

- Understanding of billing practices and clinic policies and procedures
- Knowledge of clinic operating policies
- Willingness and ability to adapt to changes in billing practices
- Ability to effectively examine documents for accuracy and completeness
- Ability to prepare records with attention to detail
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Team-player mentality and a willingness to provide support for co-workers
- Self-motivated with the ability to multi-task while working in a fast pace environment
Education
- High School Diploma or GED
- Experience
- Minimum three year of billing experience in a healthcare organization
