Research Assistant I (Conrad Prebys Center for Chemical Genomics)

The Research Assistant I will be working in the Conrad Prebys Center for Chemical Genomics and be a contributing member of the Compound Management Group (CMG). Our ideal candidate will have the demonstrated ability to perform detailed-oriented tasks with precision. We are seeking a candidate with a meticulous laboratory approach, careful adherence to protocols, and excellent documentation skills. The ability to learn and implement new instrumentation, techniques and skills is essential. Our preferred candidate will possess a high level of self-motivation, together with the ability to perform multiple tasks concurrently, and troubleshoot problems as they arise.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Assume responsibility for processing new compounds into the archive inventory and for accurate sample weighing and dissolution, performing plate compressions from 96 to 384 to 1536 well plates, as well as other routine tasks such as labeling, performing regular compound plate inventory tasks and reorganization of frozen stocks.
  • Assist in the execution of all High Throughput Screening projects (Biochemical assays, cell-based assays, and high content screening) for the Center and the institute.
  • Assist with the maintenance and operation of automation screen systems and laboratory instruments within the Prebys Center
  • Provide support of new equipment and technology to research scientists.
  • Provide guidelines to new laboratory personnel on instrument/automation operations and standard operating procedures.

Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a biological science, chemistry or related field or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been attained
  • Prior lab experience is a plus
  • Previous experience in a biotech or pharmaceutical setting is a plus
