Lab Assistant I (Conrad Prebys Center for Chemical Genomics)

Lab Assistant I position is available in the Conrad Prebys Center for Chemical Genomics.
The Conrad Prebys Center for Chemical Genomics at Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute is seeking a Lab Assistant I/II to be a contributing member of the Assay Development team. The candidate will be asked to perform a variety of tasks. Primary duties include but are not limited to working closely with the scientists in the Assay Development group, assisting with routine laboratory experiments, preparing media as directed, maintaining mammalian cell cultures, performing cloning and cell transfection to establish stable cell lines and other lab tasks as directed.

This is an exciting opportunity to directly support scientists focused on biomedical and drug discovery projects with an end goal of ultimately benefiting patients. 
Under specific direction, the Lab Assistant I will perform routine repetitive laboratory tasks, which may include the preparation of laboratory supplies and/or equipment, and other related duties and tasks as assigned.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Assists scientists in laboratory experiments
  • Performs routine laboratory tasks and experiments
  • Supports mammalian cell cultures
  • Supports generation of transfection vectors and cell line stably expressing constructs of interest

Required Experience

  • Requires a High school diploma or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Prior laboratory experience is a plus.
  • Some college-level biological science courses is a plus.

  • Ability to learn and use new techniques, instrumentation, and software is essential
  • Be responsible, organized, motivated and a problem solver

  • Have strong time management skills
  • Possess strong attention to detail
  • Demonstrate professional communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency with PC Operating Platforms and Microsoft Office
