Lab Assistant II (Conrad Prebys Center for Chemical Genomics)

The Conrad Prebys Center for Chemical Genomics at Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute is seeking a Lab Assistant II to be a contributing member of the Assay Development team. The candidate will be asked to perform a variety of tasks. Primary duties include but are not limited to assisting with routine laboratory experiments, maintaining data banks and lab inventories, preparing media as directed, and routine tasks as directed.

This is an exciting opportunity to directly support scientists focused on biomedical and drug discovery projects with an end goal of ultimately benefiting patients.
Under specific direction, the Lab Assistant II will perform routine repetitive laboratory tasks, which may include the preparation of laboratory supplies and equipment, and other related duties as assigned.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Independently performs routine repetitive laboratory tasks, which may include the preparation of laboratory supplies and/or equipment
  • Assists in routine laboratory experiments
  • Supports mammalian cell cultures with growing independence
  • Supports generation of transfection vectors and cell line stably expressing constructs of interest

Required Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required and two years' of experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been attained
  • Previous laboratory experience is preferred.
  • College-level biological science courses is a plus.
  • Completion of an Associate’s degree in one of the biological sciences or chemistry is preferred.

  • Professional proficiency with PC Operating Platforms and Microsoft Office
