Chemist Summer Intern

Olin Chlor Alkali Products and Vinyls, a division of Olin Corporation, is seeking Chemist Interns for the Summer of 2021 at the Charleston, Tennessee and Plaquemine, Louisiana plant locations.  In this role, you are expected to work safely and to learn to complete your assignments independently. Applicants must also be able to relate and communicate professionally with co-workers at various levels, and show ability to change priorities and handle multiple tasks. Teamwork and cooperation, as well as independent initiative are critical as well as proficient experience in Microsoft Excel and Word.

Essential Functions:
  • Work alongside subject matter experts to increase knowledge in the scientific method, statistics and instrumentation
  • Work with analytical personnel to develop and implement new or improved methods to support manufacturing plants
  • Maintain effective communication (written and verbal), coordinating with area supervisors, operations personnel and plant staff
  • Work with subject matter experts to analyze, develop and recommend changes to improve/support manufacturing labs
  • Gather and analyze data to support laboratory and/or plant projects
  • Work with analytical personnel to qualify and implement new instrumentation, assist in instrumentation troubleshooting 
  • Assist in developing policies, procedures and standards, including preventative maintenance
  • Participate in safety meetings, training activities and following established safety procedures and practices

Position Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Must be able to work 40 hours a week during normal business hours. 
  • Students must be currently enrolled in a Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Science-related discipline program at an accredited* College or University
  • Preference given to students located within 60 miles of the Charleston, TN and Plaquemine, LA locations
  • Must have completed sophomore year prior to first assignment with Olin
  • Must have an overall grade point average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale (Documentation required). Cumulative GPA on current institution transcript will be used in transfer college situations
  • Competent user of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Must be able to understand and prioritize initiatives; be flexible and adaptable
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization, verbally and in writing
  • Must provide your own transportation to and from work location

*College or university must be accredited by an accrediting agency recognized by the Secretary of Education of the U.S. Department of Education or equivalent program from an international university.
