Property Clerk - Seasonal/On Call

General Duty Statement

Performs intermediate-level clerical and manual work involving the receipt, disposition, and storage of evidence or property. Receives, logs, categorizes, and stores property and evidence impounded by police personnel. Releases property and evidence to properly-identified claimants and maintains security of the work area. Collects fees, issues receipts and change, and maintains records of these financial transactions. Takes and resolves complaints involved in the storage of evidence and property or refers the matter to higher-level personnel. Performs related duties as required.

Additional duties will involve the intake and release of impounded vehicles and working outdoors at times.

Information About the Current Openings:
The Saint Paul Police Department Impound Lot is looking for temporary property clerks to work during the 2020-2021 snow emergency season (approximately October 15, 2020 to April 15, 2021).

Hours:
  • This is an on-call position as needed with short notices for snow emergencies declared by the City of Saint Paul and on an irregular basis throughout the season.
  • Shifts vary (e.g. early mornings, days, nights, overnights) and include weekends and holidays to provide 24/7 coverage.
  • Work schedules are unpredictable as they are contingent on inclement weather.
Two Locations in Saint Paul:
  • Impound Lot located at 830 Barge Channel Road
  • Snow Lot located at 1129 Cathlin Street (at the State Fairgrounds)

Requirements

A High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) Certificate.

Must possess and maintain a valid Minnesota Class D Driver's License, or equivalent out-of-state driver's license.

Selection Process Information

Unclassified Position: This is an UNCLASSIFIED position and is therefore not governed by City Civil Service Rules. All who meet the criteria and requirements stated on the job posting will be placed on a hiring list for approximately one year. Hiring Managers may interview/hire anyone from the list.

Final Selection Process: A Hiring Manager will consider applicants placed on the list of eligible candidates. You will be notified if you are invited to participate in the final selection process which may include an interview, job simulation, work sample submission, or other evaluation method.  

Condition of Employment: This position will require a thorough Saint Paul Police Department background check as a condition of employment.
