Business Specialist

Essential Job Functions

The Pikes Peak Workforce Center (PPWFC) is a dual county consortium serving both El Paso and Teller Counties. The Business Specialist develops strategic alliances within the regional business community and leverages collaborations to promote a skilled workforce, increase awareness and participation in workforce development activities and support the economic development of the Pikes Peak Region. Position is subject to grant funding.
  • Serves as a convener of and advocate for the regional business community; works with the businesses on issues related to the hiring, training and retaining of employees and seeks to identify emerging trends and develop focused solutions using appropriate WIOA (Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act) tools, service strategies and community partner referrals.
  • Develops strategic alliances and partnerships with business organizations, business leaders, educational institutions and other stakeholders in efforts to create employment-generating investment from public and private sectors.
  • Responsible for providing Work Experience (WE) and On-the-Job Training (OJT) initiatives to businesses in accordance with WIOA.
  • Cultivates relationships with the regional business community to identify and access available job opportunities that conform to applicable standards.
  • Participates in sector strategy initiatives and related activities to ensure successful, high-performing, outcomes driven programs.
  • Reviews employment trends that affect the job market, identify and develop job opportunities, and assists other PPWFC staff with placement of customers in employment.
  • Researches and compiles data and interprets trends; develops potential root causes, projects consequences, develops conclusions and disseminates results; contributes to unified efforts to measure organizational performance; participates in grant development to support organizational initiatives, services and research.
  • Contributes to technical projects that impact multiple work groups, systems or work-flows; ensures organizational efficiency and optimal results.
  • Acquires and maintains knowledge of new and emerging industries, occupations, skill sets, labor markets and educational and training requirements; reinforces the organization's position as a premier workforce training and development operation.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Communications, Organizational Development or related field highly desired.
  • Minimum three (3) years experience in sales/marketing, management, employment recruitment, consulting or related field required.
  • Experience with recruitment or business to business activities in one of PPWFC's Key Industries including Aerospace, Defense, IT/Cybersecurity, Healthcare, Education, Financial Services, Manufacturing, Construction, Transportation, Trades, Utilities, or Leisure and Hospitality is strongly preferred. 
  • A flexible team player with the ability to work successfully in a changing environment.
  • High level of interpersonal skills and integrity to handle sensitive and confidential situations and information.
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing with government officials, business leaders, regional partners, media outlets, colleagues and the public.
  • Ability to build strong working relationships, internal and external to the organization. Ability to convene and facilitate group discussions or focus groups; develop and facilitate community partnerships; network with colleagues in government, education, business and the region at large.
  • Knowledge of local community resources, labor industry and labor market.
  • Ability to analyze data and statistics and deliver the information in an effective and comprehensible manner.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Proficient in Microsoft Office software: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.
  • Must be receptive to adoption and application of new and innovative technologies and technological platforms.
  • Ability to perform all duties and responsibilities in a timely and effective manner in accordance with Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), Wagner-Peyser, Workforce Investment Board (WIB), El Paso County and PPWFC policies, programs and guidelines to achieve the overall objectives of the position.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
  • An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be substituted for the education and experience requirements above.
  • Must pass conditional post offer background investigation, drug screen and motor vehicle record check.
Licenses/Certificates
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado Driver's License.
Work Conditions
Work primarily performed in an office environment; some travel is required. Will be required to work evenings and weekends as business needs dictate.
