We are seeking a Bioinformatics Scientist to support the overall functions of the Data Science Group, OD, DAIT, NIH: 
 

Responsibilities

  • Use biology/computing/informatics expertise to generate algorithm, software and database tools to perform program planning, solicitation, evaluation of the programs related to research grants, interagency agreements and contract-supported research projects in DAIT’s grant program areas.
  • Train DAIT staff on data analysis and visualization technologies.
  • Perform data management, data mining and visualization tasks that help with administrative and planning issues based on heterogeneous data sources.
  • Serve as expert on data science and IT related issues.
  • Work with other DAIT Program Officers; provide oversight of data submission of DAIT funded research program to ImmPort and other public repositories.
  • Provide expert data analysis and data management advice and guidance to program staff and extramural investigators about issues related to coordination of bioinformatics effort within DAIT, NIAID and NIH.
  • Meet regularly with the Branch Chief/Office Director, Division Director, and other DAIT officials to discuss data specific issues and review any matters of concern to the branch.
  • Work with peers across NIH Institutes, Centers, and Offices.


Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in a related discipline. Three (3) years of specialized experience plus a Master’s degree is equivalent to a Ph.D. Five (5) years of specialized experience plus a Bachelor’s degree is equivalent to a Ph.D.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of experience in a related field.
  • Basic knowledge of computer science, systems analysis, and systems programming.
  • Computer skills to include MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with C, C++, and Java.
  • Sound knowledge of bioinformatics approaches to analyze.
