Job Summary
Lumen’s internship program is a 10 week, fast-paced and exciting opportunity to gain professional experience within your field of study and career interest. Interns within the GEAR - Public Sector will be part of an accelerated learning experience, to challenge skills learned in the classroom and develop new skills while working on active Lumen work projects. Interns will have the potential to experience joining our team, that is responsible for sales to the Department of Defense regional military departments and Defense Agencies. The internship will take place in Herndon, VA from June 1, 2021 - August 13, 2021. In addition, interns will connect to our company culture through community outreach projects, engage with our employee resource groups and be able to develop their professional skills and business acumen through frequent exposure to senior leadership, cutting-edge technology, groundbreaking projects, and a network of mentors and fellow interns. Job Description
Intern will have the opportunity to grow their business acumen from a sales perspective, learning from senior sales persons and learn the art of account management and positioning new opportunities to customers.   
Intern will pair up with (3) Senior Account Directors for 3 weeks each. Last week would be with the Director of the Department. 
Weeks 1-3: Learn day to day operations, exposure to the systems a sales person has to utilize, learn how to prepare for a meeting, attend customer meetings.
Weeks 4-6: Learn what it takes to be a long term employee, learn how to stay relevant in same industry, work on customer actions and attend customer meetings.
Weeks 7-9: Work with the program team on how they go about quoting and researching competitive quotes in government systems to justify pricing. Prepare quotes and submit to customer. Learn how to process orders.
Week 10: Work directly with Sales Director, who will share knowledge with intern on working way through company as a 19-year employee starting out as a Sales executive to Director. Attend Director meetings with leadership and understand how quota setting is achieved, and will eventually hit the financial streets. Attend one on ones, and team meetings to learn about leadership roles. 
Qualifications
  • Minimum Cumulative GPA: 3.0 or higher (preferred)
  • Enrolled at a 4-year accredited college or university, in a rising junior, rising senior, or masters level status at time of internship.
  • Graduating between August 2021 – May 2023
  • Education/Degree: In pursuit of a bachelor’s level degree in business, accounting or finance in a senior level status at the start of the internship. Master’s Degree preferred.

  • Ability to demonstrate ownership and accountability
  • Ability to collaborate and have agility while making effective decisions
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Flexible and adapts well to change
  • Professional appearance and attitude
  • Office 365 proficient. SAP skillsets helpful. Salesforce.
  • Business & Finance Accumen.  
  • Basic Networking skills
  • Intern is responsible for their travel to/from work location
  • Must be available to work 30 – 40 hours, during the specified 10-week timeframe
