Biogeochemistry Lab Assistant

The incumbent will conduct work in support of various environmental research projects relating to the effects of land use change on water quality and productivity. The knowledge and skills obtained through this position are highly valuable for those wishing to pursue a career in an environmental science related field. 

Major Duties:
The incumbent will be involved with a variety of laboratory tasks relating to water, soil and vegetation. Tasks include sample collection and preparation, labeling, tracking, filtering, instrument operation and monitoring, analysis, and general lab upkeep. Occasional day trips to the field for sampling may occur. The incumbent will practice safe work guidelines according to the USFS COVID-19 policy which are consistent with or exceed CDC and CSU policies, including daily temperature monitoring. During all travel, field, and lab work, the incumbent will wear a protective face mask.

Minimum Qualifications:
•             Enrollment of BSc degree in chemistry, hydrology, ecology, biology, or related field.
•             Residence in Fort Collins or surrounding area.
•             In good health and capable of strenuous physical labor.
•             Knowledge of general chemistry and laboratory instrumentation
•             Familiarity with laboratory techniques such as pipetting and filtration.
•             Experience with basic statistics and spreadsheet software (Excel)
•             Ability to prepare accurate and legible notes and labels
•             Good organizational skills
•             Excellent oral and written communication skills
•             Punctuality and dependability
 
This is a part time position (10-12 hours per week) for the spring semester, with the potential for full time (40 hours per week) from mid-May until the end of August.
 
Pay is hourly and scaled based on experience and skill ($12.01 - $15.08 per hour), with opportunities for promotion.
 
Ideal candidates will be in their sophomore or junior year and looking for employment for multiple academic years.
 
Laboratory is located in Fort Collins, CO off of Lake Street on the south edge of the CSU campus. 

Colorado State University may conduct background checks on final candidates.
