Immunization Nurse


Primary function:  The Immunization Nurse works with the site Nursing Coordinator and Nurse Manager to facilitate access to CDC recommended vaccines maintaining high levels of patient safety and quality of care. The focus of this position is providing access to COVID 19 vaccines during the pandemic emergency. 


DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES: (Essential Functions: Duties and responsibilities noted with bullets are considered to be the essential functions of the job).
·        Works with the multidisciplinary team to administer immunizations to patients as recommended by the Virginia Department of Health and CDC, particularly Coronavirus vaccines.
·        Responds to patient phone calls, questions, and requests for care, in coordination with the medical patient care team
·        Screens patients for immunization contraindications and precautions
·        Provides education to patients regarding immunization risks and benefits
·        Administers vaccine to patients in high volume immunization clinic settings
·        Responds to patient emergencies such as anaphylaxis or syncope
·        Acts as the clinical resource for Medical Assistants in immunization clinics
·        Assists with inventory, ordering, and maintenance of clinical supplies, onsite medications, and equipment
·        Assists with administration of Virginia state vaccine program and communicates with state vaccine officials
·        Participates in clinical quality improvement and risk management activities involving vaccine activities and clinics
·        Fills in for patient care clinical duties as needed.
·        Employee will be asked to perform additional duties and take on other responsibilities as dictated by events and circumstances.

Qualifications
·              Current LPN or RN license in the state of Virginia
·              Clinical Competency in the administration of IM vaccines
·              Knowledge in vaccine storage and handling (training provided)
·              Ability to document in the electronic medical record
·              Strong organizational skills.
·              Strong communication skills
·              Bilingual skills in Spanish or Amharic a plus.
