Environmental Specialist II (Petroleum Storage Tank Compliance Inspector) – P0311
Woodbridge, Virginia
Minimum Starting Salary: $50,696

The Department of Environmental Quality, Northern Regional Office, is seeking a qualified candidate to independently use established policies, procedures, and guidelines to inspect varied, complex facilities. Perform facility inspections to evaluate the design and operation of petroleum storage tank systems. Document findings and work with owner/operators to remedy non-compliant conditions. Assist tank owner/operators in complying with State laws and regulations governing storage tanks to promote improved environmental performance and reduce threats to human health and the environment from petroleum releases.

Qualifications: 

  • Knowledge and experience with federal/state/local laws and regulation governing petroleum storage, UST/AST design technology, corrosion protection systems, & leak detection methods.
  • Knowledge and experience with environmental science and engineering practices, chemistry, & basic hydrogeology.
  • Knowledge and experience with project management.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of PC/database operations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work as a member of a team.
  • Work experience demonstrating strong work ethic and independent work skills.

Qualifications preferred but not required: Bachelor’s Degree in environmental, engineering/physical/biological or related science. A combination of education, experience, and training may substitute for a degree.
