After-hours On-Call Veterinary Assistant - Equine Medicine & Critical Care Services

The Equine Medicine & Critical Care services team is responsible for in patient treatments on all hospitalized equine patients; from elective to critical to infectious cases.

  • Seeking a self-motivated, organized student employee who can demonstrate verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be willing to work during spring semester, as well as during breaks
  • Previous horse handling experience required
  • Previous veterinary technician/assistant experience preferred

Job Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Assist in care of patients as directed, including feeding, administering oral medications, obtaining vital signs, and support technical staff as needed, in a compassionate manner
  • Utilize every recommended or required precaution when working with potentially infectious patients, including wearing appropriate personnel protective equipment at all times, following all hygiene guidelines, and cleaning and sanitizing all surfaces and equipment according to standard operating procedures
  • Work effectively and reliably both independently and as a member of a team to accomplish desired tasks
  • Observe patients for changes or concerns and notify staff technician, when necessary

Employees can expect to be on-call at least 4-5 shifts per month

When on-call, employee must be within 20 minutes of the hospital at all times.

Hourly Pay Rate: $18 per hour when called in to work (a minimum of 2 hours pay each time called in);

On-Call Hours:
Sun-Thurs 6:00pm to 2:00am
Friday 6:00pm to 6am
Saturday and Sunday 6am-6pm
Holidays will also be scheduled
